At the Multilateral Conference on Differentiated Thyroid Cancer held in Martinique in January, representatives of SNMMI, the European Association of Nuclear Medicine (EANM), the European Thyroid Association (ETA) and American Thyroid Association (ATA) discussed issues related to the care of patients with thyroid cancer, with particular focus on radioactive iodine (RAI) therapy.

The group synthesized the proceedings into what are being called the “Martinique Principles," which consist of the major points that the attendees agreed upon and also define terminology and outline areas of controversy and goals for future study. Next on the agenda is a white paper, which the group plans to submit to the ATA’s journal, Thyroid, with possible editorials published in The Journal of Nuclear Medicine, European Journal of Nuclear Medicine, and European Thyroid Journal.
Looking ahead, the group sees the value of ongoing collaboration and hopes to have a formal framework established to support additional meetings.
